Clear Books Limited is pleased to announce the official launch of Open Payroll, an online payroll software for small businesses that is tightly integrated with our online accounting system.

Since the first line of  Clear Books code was written 3 years ago we have been focused on becoming the leading online accounting system in the UK. This is still the case.

Open Payroll is focused on becoming the leading online payroll system in the UK.

Open Payroll History

Open Payroll has evolved from a Clear Books need.

We initially developed Clear Books to solve the accounting requirements of our founders’ businesses. With fantastic feedback from an ever increasing number of loyal customers, the system progressed rapidly and now caters for a wide range of small businesses all over the world.

As our company grew we naturally began to recruit employees which created an admin pain point. We were desperate for a system to manage payroll online. To solve this problem we quickly created a very simple payroll module within the Clear Books framework. It did the necessary tax calculations and all was well. As it was proving useful to our own business it was a natural step for us to make it available to all our customers so that they could benefit too.

The problem with introducing a new feature on the scale of a payroll module is that it creates more work from the feedback in the form of ideas, problems and questions. As payroll was not intended as a core product it was always difficult to justify the required extra development.

So several months ago we put it to our customers to explore the possibility of breaking out payroll as a separate service so that we could dedicate resources to developing it to take it to  the next level. Advancements were to include integrating with HMRC for online filing of new joiners and leavers, creation of PDF payslips and HMRC accreditation.

After a positive response from our customers we are pleased to announce Open Payroll is now live and operational.

Our Future

Clear Books is an online accounting system and Open Payroll is an online payroll system. They are different services but highly integrated.

The future is exciting because payroll is not the only operational pain point we have hit in our journey as a growing business. There are other internal services that we have developed that help us run our business more efficiently.

If we can help our customers’ businesses be more efficient then we will.

To access Open Payroll simply use the dropdown in the top right hand corner of the system to switch from Clear Books when logged in.

  1. Hi Adam,

To access switch to OpenPayroll in the top right hand corner dropdown (it defaults to Clear Books).

    Thanks

  2. Hi Polly,

Currently it costs £1 per month per employee.

We’re developing Clear Books as an accounting service and OpenPayroll as a separate payroll service.

    Thanks
